Betulinic
acid isolated, from several plants, is found to be
inhibitor
of HIV- replication in H 9 lymphocyte cells. Eight derivatives of
betulinic acid were evaluated as inhibitor of HIV-1 replication, [T.
Fujioka et
al, Journal of Natural products, 37 (2), 243 (1994)]. C

Carboxyl group, C 3 – hydroxyl and double bond between C20 and C
29 seems to have a crucial role in regulating the activity.
Several esters of betulinic acid, involving 3- Beta-hydroxyl were also
prepared to test their insect-antifeedant activity (S.G. Jagdesh, G.L.

J. Agric. Food Chem., 46, 2797 (1998). Among them three compounds
showed high insect-antifeedant activity. |
